Our stated charitable purpose

The specific purpose of Leaders Advancing Business is to advance education and promote regional economic development within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Specifically, LAB exists to educate and develop established business owners through structured peer learning, experiential business education, and leadership development programs. By providing curated educational events, expert-led sessions, and facilitated discussions, LAB empowers entrepreneurs to sharpen their leadership skills, build sustainable enterprises, and drive the economic, job-growth, and civic vitality of their communities.

LAB is organized as a nonprofit public benefit corporation and is not organized for the private gain of any person. No substantial part of its activities consists of carrying on propaganda or attempting to influence legislation, and LAB does not participate or intervene in any political campaign. To ensure accessibility and maximize public benefit, LAB's educational programs are primarily offered free of charge or supported by corporate and community sponsorships.

Governance

How LAB is governed

Board of Directors

All corporate authority is vested in LAB's Board of Directors, which by bylaw must consist of between three and nine directors. No more than 49% of the board may be compensated "interested persons," keeping a majority independent.

Officers

LAB's officers are a President & CEO, a Secretary, and a Treasurer & CFO — see the Leadership section of our About page for who currently holds each role.

No self-inurement

LAB's property is irrevocably dedicated to charitable and educational purposes. No part of its net income or assets inures to the benefit of any director, officer, or private individual, and a conflict-of-interest policy governs any transaction that could benefit an insider.

Upon any future dissolution, LAB's remaining assets — after payment of debts and liabilities — would be distributed to another nonprofit fund, foundation, or corporation organized and operated exclusively for charitable or educational purposes with established 501(c)(3) status, per LAB's bylaws.

How we're funded

Sponsorships, not membership dues.

LAB has no formal, statutory members and charges no required membership dues. Programming is funded primarily through corporate and community sponsorships, with the Board retaining the right to set nominal program fees or seat-holder deposits where needed to manage event capacity.
